Spätburgunder is also known as “Pinot Noir” and is the leading red wine grape variety in Germany; its finest wines come from the Ahr region. Rosé wines, “Weißherbst” wines, and the very popular “Blanc de Noir”—a white wine made from red grapes—are also frequently produced from the Spätburgunder grape. This grape thrives on the steep slopes of the Ahr and accounts for over 50% of our total vineyard area.
Peter Kriechel Ahr Pinot Noir S
“S” is the winery’s internal designation for “Selection.” For these S wines, the foundation for their superior quality is laid by reducing the harvest yield right in the vineyard. The full-bodied S wines are of at least Spätlese quality and are vinified using traditional methods.
