The wines from the Ahr are award-winning and the 38 or so winegrowers are clearly at the top of the German wine list, especially with their red wines. The concept, class instead of mass, has been bearing fruit successfully for decades. Mentions in the Gault Millau, victories in the German Pinot Noir Prize, International Steep Site Competition or the German Red Wine Prize show how highly wine experts from all over the world appreciate the quality of Ahr wines.
The wineries and their growing areas are located in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate and stretch from Altenahr to Heimersheim. In the north they border directly on North Rhine-Westphalia. Of a total of 525 hectares, about 85 percent are used for the production of red wine.
